Valley Pride Day

May 6, 2017 @ 8:30 am - 2:00 pm

SNOW IS GONE _ LITTER CLEAN UP DAY IS HERE!

After a long hard winter the snow is finally disappearing along our roadways but unfortunately it uncovers dirty litter and trash for our communities to deal with. Thanks to all the volunteers and businesses throughout Western Maine, Mount Washington Valley, Lakes Regions, and Northern NH –  hundreds of miles of roadways and villages will be cleaned of litter again this year.  “Each year the efforts and the participation grows which makes a statement about the awareness and pride this area has for the environment and pristine presentation of our communities.” states Donna Woodward, Project Manager of the event.

The 17th Annual Valley Pride Day Litter Campaign will be held on Saturday, May 6th this year. As always each town will have a location where volunteers can go to pick up trash bags – donated by NH Beautiful, gloves – donated by Memorial Hospital, and cleaning assignment. If you prefer to use your own bags and get out and clean in your neighborhood you may do that also. We ask that you make sure your town is involved before leaving bags of trash along the main roadways for pick-up and that it is dropped no later than11:30AM on May 6th. Volunteers will be by to pick up and transport these bags of litter to the transfer stations. Please dispose of recyclables at the transfer station or bring to the Hampton Inn in North Conway where North Conway Incinerator Services has places two roll offs for collection. Drop off must be done between 11:00am and 1:00pm on Pride Day only. DO NOT BRING TIRES TO THE HAMPTON INN.

Flyers are posted throughout the communities but if you are in need of more information listen to WMWV 93.5FM, go to Valley Pride Day facebook page or simply email or call Donna Woodward at 207 441-8170 or [email protected] Sign up is from 8:30-10AM and here is a list of some of the towns and sign up locations:

It’s amazing how much fun and enjoyment you can get out of being part of an event as big as this, even when you are doing something as dirty as picking up trash. The staff at Hampton Inn and The Residence Inn will be making sure everyone gets a chance to socialize and bask in their accomplishments by hosting the biggest BBQ in town starting at noon. Tom Spaulding, Manager of the Hampton Inn will be opening up the indoor water park for the kids to enjoy as well. Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream will add to the day with endless scooping of your favorite flavors, and this year we are thrilled to welcome “Music by Carlos” who is rapidly becoming a local favorite in entertainment.  There will be several local restaurants, Flatbread pizza, prizes and give-a-ways, fun projects for the kids presented by Home Depot and the list goes on – all happening from noon to 2pm on Saturday May 6th.

So folks, mark your calendars and come be part of a great community day. Keep your eyes and ears open for updates and information between now and May 6th thanks to the strong community involvement of our friends in the media. Get out and spread the word, email your friends and family and invite them to join us for the best year yet with well over a thousand volunteers and more than 6000 bags of unsightly litter being removed from our roadways and properly disposed of. See you on Valley Pride Day!!
